Welcome to JC Dance

Joel Chapman was born in York, UK into a creative and musical family. He would sing every week in church and perform in regular shows. Little did he know this would lead to a successful career as a Ballroom Dancer. After watching the original show Burn the Floor, showcasing the worlds best Ballroom & Latin dancers, he was hooked and never looked back. He started his dance journey at a dance school in Leeds, where he successfully achieved the highest distinctions in all his medals. It wasn't long before Joel was training in the prestigious Semley Studios in London with the very lead dancers of the show that had first inspired him to pursue this incredible art form. Although attaining success in the competitive world, Joel realised that his passion to teach and create was the focus of his life as a dancer. The Rock Academy of Dance, later renamed YADA, opened it's doors in 2002 and quickly became one of the most popular dance schools in York. The annual student showcase was an instant success, and became a sell out event every year. During this time, Joel coached dancers to achieve places at Northern & Scottish School of Contemporary Dance & Laban. Along side this, Joel has been the resident teacher for York's Ballroom & Latin Society at York University for 15 years, coaching many couples to reach the finals in the National University Championships at Blackpool. In 2022, Joel & his sister created and produced the original show & musical, Wicked Origins. It was so popular, it returned to the stage in November of 2023, wowing audiences with music and dance. 

In 2019, JC Dance was established, offering a more intimate & exclusive training experience. Joel's primary focus is now Ballroom & Latin in both 1-1 tuition and group classes.

 

JC Dance isn't just about Dance! It's an ethos, a sound, an experience.
